THE KIOSK PROJECT
PETER CALLESEN
SNOW DRIFTING
7th November – 14th December 2003
For his solo show at The Kiosk Project, Danish artist Peter Callesen has created the installation Snow Drifting. On the floor sits a lone snow drift, a white, upholstered sculpture inviting the viewer to sit or fall into it. The snow drift has a set of headphones attached, reproducing the sound of snow ie: nothing. By excluding external sounds through the wearing of headphones and simultaneously facilitating the sensation of sinking into the softness of snow, the work intensifies the internal senses and conveys a mediative state of mind.
Peter Callesens show at The Kiosk Project revolves around various representations of snow. He also works with the retelling of fairy tales and creates a fragile universe imitating nature and transports the viewer into a temporal reality of magic and beauty. The work is a continuation of themes explored in White Shadows at Esbjerg Kunstmuseum and in work currently on show in From Dust To Dusk at Charlottenborg, Copenhagen.
