Dinghy in ice made of 35 litres of water, freezing evaporator, condenser, compressor, fan, glasscase made of heat reflecting glass, maranti wood and okumé wooden boards, 160 x 100 x 160 cm. Made for the exhibition White Shadows, Esbjerg Museum of Art, Denmark, 2001
In order to enter the low entrance for the installation one has to bend down to level of a child. Inside a installation arises in front of you as a dreamlike and almost unreal vision. In a special constructed freeze-glasscase, which associate both old museums and fairytales, is places a miniature dinghy made out of ice. The boat as archetype symbolizes here both dreams and longing. But the boat is out of reach, it belongs to another magic world. It only exist as a frozen image. If moved from its cold world the fragile boat would perish, and in that sense the installation could be seen as an incubator, as well as dealing with more general subjects as decay and death.
The small size of the boat could also suggest a work dealing with the utopian and impossible dream of a return to childhood.
